![]() Brooke and I found a great deal on an airline/hotel package to Maui and decided we couldn't pass it up. So we took a little vacation and spent 6 days in Maui. We stayed in Kihei in south Maui, and did a lot of snorkeling and exlporing around the island. This is the front of the Aston Maui Lu Resort where we stayed. The Maui shaped pool from the deck on the third floor outside our room. We were making our way towards Haleakala on our first day when we decided to make a quick stop to get a closer look at some sugar cane fields. This is looking towards West Maui. View from the visitor center (which had closed a few minutes before we got there) looking into the crater on Haleakala. What's wrong Brooke? Can't handle the elevation? I guess those hikes up 14k ft peaks didn't prepare you for this... Silhouette of the observatories on top of Haleakala. The road to the edge of the world... We made lots of stops on the road to Hana to check out some things mentioned in our guide book. This was on the trail to the 4 waterfalls. ![]() A little farther down the road we found a nice little private pool with a waterfall. And the best part was it was only a 30 second walk from the road... A quick side trip down a dirt road took us to the Blue Pool where we were almost run off the road by some locals... The wind and waves had picked up a bit in the afternoon. We still haven't made it to Hana yet... This was at the same place as the previous picture. ![]() We made it to the black sand beach as the sun was setting, and the full moon was rising. I guess we'll be driving the rest of the road in the dark... Full moon rising over black sand beach. This was on the trail around the lava tubes by the black sand beach. ![]() We took a trip out to Molikini the third morning to snorkel in the crater. Unfortunately, our disposable underwater cameras didn't work too well and gave pretty bad pictures. ![]() After snorkeling at Molikini Crater, our boat headed back towards South Maui, and made a stop at a local turtle hangout, much to Brooke's delight. ![]() On our last full day we took a hike up into the mountains after a morning of snorkeling. This is a view towards Kahului. This was at the end of the trail. Looks like we've discovered where corn dogs come from... A closer look at the corn dog plant. Our last night. We walked across the street to take sunset pictures on our resort's beach. A lone windsurfer was out for a sunset ride... ![]() Looks like its time to buy a better flash... |
